White & Case advises Rohlik Group on new scale-up financing from European Investment Bank
Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised Rohlik Group on a guaranteed loan of up to €90 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB) as part of its ‘Scale-Up’ initiative, which aims to support rapidly growing technology startups in Europe.
The loan is intended to fund projects related to the development and implementation of advanced digital technologies to further automate distribution centres, enhance customer experience, improve operational efficiency and support Rohlik Group’s expansion into additional European markets. Rohlik Group is one of the first companies the EIB has supported under the ‘Scale-Up’ programme.
“The financing demonstrates EIB’s confidence in Rohlik Group’s success and its significant contribution to technological innovation in the e-commerce sector,” said White & Case partner Petr Hudec, who led the Firm’s deal team. “The transaction, which spanned several jurisdictions including the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Romania, showcases our cross-border debt finance capabilities, especially in relation to new finance products.”
During 2024, White & Case advised Rohlik.cz Finance II a.s. on a successful CZK 4 billion (€160 million equivalent) retail bond issuance.
Rohlik is a leading European online food delivery service operating in the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Austria and Romania. It is part of an exclusive group of Czech startups with ‘unicorn’ status, valued at more than US$1 billion. In a move to expand its reach, Rohlik recently announced the launch of a groundbreaking partnership with Amazon in Germany, enabling it to deliver products to Amazon Prime customers through Amazon’s platform.
The White & Case team which advised on the transaction was led by partner Petr Hudec (Prague) and included counsel Petr Šmerkl (Prague) and associate Josef Levy (Prague). Luxembourg law matters were handled by counsel Willem Van de Wiele (Brussels & Luxembourg) and German law matters by local partner Matthias Grigoleit (Hamburg).
